With the opening of the Su-Hua Highway improvement project, traveling to Hualien and Taitung has become more popular. However, traffic jams during long weekends have also become a common problem. For those who want to drive to the Yi-Hua-Tung area, we have compiled three traffic-free routes to provide you with the freedom of driving while avoiding traffic jams.
1.【Take the Blue Highway and drive onto the ferry】
Cars can drive onto the cruise ship Liena and travel to Hualien by sea.The cost is 700 NTD per person for the economy class and 1500 NTD per car. Liena Cruise departs from the south side of Su'ao Bridge, and the sailing schedule is at 10:30 every Saturday from Su'ao Port to Hualien Port, and at 16:30 every Sunday from Hualien Port to Su'ao Port. Passengers need to complete the boarding procedures 90 minutes prior to departure. The check-in service stops 30 minutes before departure, and no late check-in is allowed. The Liena Cruise takes about 2 hours for the voyage, and the boarding and disembarking procedures each take about 1 hour, resulting in a total transportation time of 4 hours. The biggest advantage of this Blue Highway is that you can experience the oceanic scenery along the Blue Highway and reduce the fatigue of driving.
2.【Avoid peak hours and take the Su-Hua Highway improvement project】
Compared to the original Su-Hua Highway, the Su-Hua Highway Improvement Project is like taking a shortcut, straightening out several winding sections of the road. However, this expressway is always congested during holidays. Especially, the two periods from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00 are the most crowded. When heading south to Hualien, it is recommended to stop at Dongshan River Park or Jinguashi for accommodation, dining, and rest to adjust the schedule and avoid peak hours. When heading north to Taipei, taking a break at the Hualien Container Starbucks can make the entire trip smoother and more relaxing.
3.【Driving on the old Su-Hua Highway, also known as Provincial Highway No. 9D】
The original Suhua Highway is now renamed as the Taiwan Provincial Highway 9D. This route offers beautiful coastal and mountain scenery, allowing travelers to enjoy more natural landscapes. However, due to its winding route, it may take longer to travel. Alternatively, one could think of it as an opportunity to stop and explore along the way, making it a unique travel experience. We provide detailed information on holiday festivals and activities to help you quickly plan your travel itinerary. 1.No Traffic Jam To Yilan
